BLOODy crime reconStruction Through Artificial INtelligence (BLOODSTAIN)
Intentional homicides have a profound social, economic, and security impact, highlighting the need for more effective forensic investigation methods. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA) is a valuable technique for reconstructing violent crimes through the analysis of bloodstain morphology and distribution. However, current BPA practices are limited by crime scene contamination, investigator cognitive biases, poor communication among stakeholders, and difficulties in preserving evidence integrity. The BLOODSTAIN project addresses these challenges by developing an advanced forensic framework that enables contamination-free evidence tagging, AI-based bloodstain analysis for crime scene reconstruction, holographic visualization of crime dynamics, and secure evidence storage through blockchain technology. By combining machine learning, computer vision, mixed reality, and blockchain, BLOODSTAIN aims to improve the objectivity, efficiency, and reliability of forensic investigations. The project is expected to deliver the first integrated BPA-based decision support system, enhancing crime reconstruction while reducing investigation costs and strengthening public safety.
